Our economy aims at the development of better and innovative products. Innovation is a central task of each company to meet the challenges of the world market. But how is that possible? Can innovation be supported? How can product development teams be innovative successfully? In particular, how is that possible in distributed teams?
The project idSpace focuses on exactly these questions. In this project, existing approaches for the support of innovation and creativity will be analyzed and new approaches will be developed. In particular, a new internet platform was developed to support distributed product innovation. Besides functionalities that can be found in other tools, like the acquisition and documentation of ideas, the idSpace-platform provides a variety of innovative capabilities. For describing ideas as one of the first activities, semantic techniques are applied. This explicit knowledge-representation is used to point out other ideas. Based on experience-based techniques the platform is capable of pointing to earlier project results and ideas as well as providing proposals for possible team members. The process of this system is based on recent insights of the domains of creative problem solving, e-learning, and team organization.
The SSE group developed, besides others, on overview of existing creativity techniques to support the requirements analysis. Further, the group developed techniques for the automated support of idea generation based on semantic information.
