abstract |
Requirements engineering is often a process within which an interdisciplinary group of people have to arrive at a novel and valuable solution to a complex design problem in which they all share a stake. In such situations, requirements engineering requires creativity, and typically involves intensive communication and negotiation. Collaborative creativity can thus be essential for effective requirements engineering in these cases. Few studies have concentrated on understanding the implications of this need for collaborative creativity, however, and there is limited advice for practitioners. This paper therefore explains the collaboratively creative nature of requirements engineering, based upon a literature review and the results of a survey of experts. It then develops a list of factors influencing collaborative creativity and provides advice for practitioners on how to deal with them. |
